The Region: The Mount Benson Wine Region is a recently defined viticultural area situated 300km South of Adelaide on the Limestone Coast. Its key attributes for producing distinctive quality fruit include an abundance of underground water, terra rossa soil over free-draining limestone and a cool Mediterranean climate. The region is renowed for producing elegant and complex wines typical of vineyards in cooler climates.
Winemaking: This shiraz was fermented mainly in open concrete tanks where it was laboriously plunged by hand before being run into Fresh oak barriques and aged for 18 months. Only natural organic fining agents were used.
Aroma: The bouquet consists of hints of coffee and chocolate laced with spices and touch of black pepper - a trademark of Shiraz from this region.
Palate: This Shiraz shows great structure and depth of flavour with a savory finish. Presenting fine tannins, the oak is well integrated and the overall effect is generous and mouth-filling.
